CASLT invites you to read its recent joint report, Teaching French as a Second Language in Canada: Teachers' Perspectives. The report is the fruit a of two-year national survey of 1,305 teachers of French as a second language (FSL) from all provinces and territories, designed to collect their perceptions and opinions regarding the challenges they face in their working and learning conditions.
This major research project comprised a literature review, an online questionnaire, and a final report outlining the most critical needs of FSL teachers across the country. This report will help us draw a clear picture of the unique characteristics of teaching FSL in Canada and suggest priorities for future improvement.
The CASLT Networking Day held on December 1, 2006 provided an opportunity for delegates from provincial and territorial departments of education, teacher federations and language teacher associations to come together to address key challenges identified in this report and to propose ideas for action. Participants identified key areas for recommendations and future activities. Communications support materials will allow volunteers to disseminate the findings and increase awareness of FSL education issues in Canada.
