Activity
In groups of two, the students look for information on the Internet to complete an information sheet about the Montreal Canadians. Then they use the information to prepare and present an oral interview or report.
Learning Outcomes / Technical Skills
The students will be required to:
- find specific information on the Internet;
- work with a partner to participate in a interview role play;
- find information on a Web site.
Learning Scenario
In pairs, students find information to fill in an information sheet. Then they write, practice and present an interview or report based on the information they have discovered. One student plays the role of the interviewer or reporter while the other chooses one of the following roles: player, former player, coach, manager, or fan.
Extension Activities
Students can take notes while listening to the other presentations in order to:
- choose the funniest (most serious, most difficult, most interesting etc.) questions or answers
- write a summary list (Who was interviewed, What did they talk about)
- choose the most unusual (entertaining, informative, etc.) interview.
Students can write a short newspaper article, headline or advertisement to summarize their presentation.
Assessment Strategies
Questions to help direct teacher observations:
- Have the students provided all of the correct information for the Information Hunt?
- Did each group prepare at least 5 questions and answers?
- Did students use appropriate verb tenses in their questions and answers?
- Did the students practice their presentations?
- Did the students speak loud enough?
- Were the students enthusiastic?
- Did the presentation hold the interest of the other students?
A self-evaluation form is available. It may be completed in one of two ways: you may discuss these questions orally with your students or if you prefer, your students can write out their answers to the self evaluation questions.
