Overview of Activity:
Working in pairs, students play a question and answer game in order to discover specific information on cultural aspects of the Provinces and Territories of Canada.
Learning Outcomes / Technical Skills:
The students will be required to:
- get information on cultural aspects of the Provinces and Territories;
- co-operate with a peer;
- learn that French exists outside of the classroom;
- learn some new vocabulary.
- visit Canadian travel web sites.
Learning Scenario:
- This activity involves a question and answer played in pairs. Each group will print one copy of the game board (see Student Page) and obtain two tokens to mark their places.
- Students put their markers in the "Start" space. Each student takes a turn rolling the die and advancing the numbers of spaces that was rolled.
- The student answers the questions or follows the instructions that are given. To find the answers to the questions, the student clicks on the help button provided and visits the tourism web sites. The first student to arrive in the "End" space wins the game. The students may also bring the game board home to continue the play.
Extension Activities:
The students make up new questions based on the information that they found at the web sites for the game board and exchange these questions with other groups in the class.
Assessment Strategies:
Questions to help direct teacher observations:
- Are the answers correct?
- Have the students played well together?
- Will the students be able to correctly answer the same questions when asked orally?
- Were the students capable of going to the sites efficiently?
A self-evaluation form is available. It may be completed in one of two ways: You may discuss these questions orally with your students or if you prefer, your students can write out their answers to the self evaluation questions.
