Activity
The students will make a geopolitical map and write an informative text by exclusively using the information contained on the map.
Learning Outcomes
The student will be required to:
- make a geopolitical map that meets the demands of the curriculum;
- write an informative text;
- use proper language checking tools during the proofreading phase of the project;
- with the help of the teacher, select assessment criteria for the production of the map as well as the written work.
Equipment:
- access to the Internet
- a web browser
- a word processing program
Learning Scenario
- With the help of Internet, go to the site:http://www.francophonie.org/-Etats-et-gouvernements-.html.
- Using this list, build your map of the official members of the Francophonie.
- Using only the information on this geopolitical map, the student writes an informative text.
- Students in the class will read each individual's text.
Criteria for Evaluation
- The production of the map meets the requirements of the rules for doing a geopolitical map as prescribed by the curriculum.
Evaluation Form
The map is:
Excellent: The student has succeeded in producing a map that follows all the prescribed rules for doing a geopolitical map at this academic level.
Good: The student has succeeded in producing a map that meets the requirements of all the prescribed rules except for one of them for doing a geopolitical map at this academic level.
Satisfactory: The student has succeeded in producing a map that meets the requirements of all the prescribed rules except for two of them for doing a geopolitical map at this academic level.
Unsatisfactory: The student did not succeed in producing a map that meets the requirements of the prescribed rules for doing a geopolitical map at this academic level.
The informative text meets the demands that you have established with your student.
The informative text is:
Excellent: the student has succeeded in communicating an informative message in all points as to the information and the conventional requirements of correct language.
Good: the student has succeeded in communicating an informative message in most points as to the information and the conventional requirements of correct language.
Satisfactory: the student has succeeded in communicating an informative message in general as to the information and the conventional requirements of correct language.
Unsatisfactory: the student has not succeeded to communicate an informative message as to the information and the conventional requirements in a language that has too many errors at this academic level.
We don't want to be too prescriptive at the level of the learning objectives. We prefer that you use evaluation criteria that you would normally use in your program of studies. We encourage that the student take charge of the learning during the activity. You can, for example, encourage the learner to select evaluation criteria that conform to the program of studies in your jurisdiction.
