Have you ever considered using podcasts as additional language teaching tools? They are a dynamic and flexible method that can truly transform learning. Five years ago, driven by the desire to share my passion for language and content creation, I decided to take the plunge and integrate this communication tool into my French teaching.

With more than 20 years of experience as a French teacher, I was looking for new methods to revitalize my pedagogy. I’ve always enjoyed podcasts for all kinds of things: cooking, travelling, discovering a new language. Introducing this communication tool into my teaching practice has proven to be a real renewal.

I’m sure you also have passions that, when shared, can have a profound impact on the educational journeys of our students.

In my case, the power of storytelling combined with music has allowed me to merge passion and educational goals. This approach not only enriched my students’ learning but also reinforced their commitment and enthusiasm for the French language. Seeing them react and interact with content in such a lively way confirms that podcasts have a prominent place in language teaching.

My Experience With Podcasts

Inspired by my childhood in France and my passion for Francophone music, I set out to create a podcast dedicated to exploring Francophone songs. Each episode is an invitation to discover a new song, where I break down the lyrics, explaining the linguistic subtleties to learners at a B1/B2 level. This allows them to not only practice the language, but also to immerse themselves in Francophone culture through its music.

Teaching Application

For each song presented, I prepare teaching sheets focusing on grammar and spelling, also enriching students’ vocabulary in the target language. These resources enable learners to practice independently while building their language confidence.

Benefits for Students

This teaching method allows students to deepen their auditory understanding and oral expression while actively engaging them in their learning. Podcasts provide a unique immersion experience that motivates students and builds their confidence in their language abilities.

In short, the integration of podcasts into additional language teaching not only transforms how students are taught, but also enriches their learning experience, making them more autonomous and involved in their educational process.

And now, if I was to repeat the exercise by creating a podcast where we could share our experiences as additional language teachers, what would you think?
